5 Spring Car Maintenance Tips

5 Spring Car Maintenance Tips When winter bids you farewell and the spring season arrives, you begin to make plans for fun picnics and adventurous road trips. In order to turn these plans into reality, your car needs to be functioning properly. Before you hit the road, make sure that your car is ready to cover the distance.

Here are five tips for spring car maintenance.

1. Check the Charging System

The cold winter weather can affect the life and quality of your battery. When you finally decide to give your car a run, get the battery checked. Make sure that the battery is properly mounted and the connections are in place. Also, check whether or not your battery is clean and corrosion-free. If your battery is more than five-years-old, replacing it is the right thing to do.

2. Check the Windshield

Due to harsh weather conditions, the windshields of cars often end up getting chipped or cracked. While it may seem like a minor issue, a broken or damaged windshield can do a lot more harm than you think. It can compromise the integrity of your car’s roof. It can also affect the timely opening of the airbags in case of an accident. If you notice a crack or chip in your windshield, make sure you get it fixed right away.

3. Get the Tires Checked

Tires are by far the most crucial components of any vehicle. They help bridge the gap between a road and a vehicle. Check the pressure of all the four tires, as well as the spare tire on a monthly basis. Check all tires for bruises and punctures. Check the tread for uneven wears, cuts and bruises on the sidewalls. After covering every 10,000 km, replace your existing tires with new ones.

4. Check Fluids

Keeping the fluid of your car under check is important to ensure your car functions properly. When you check the oil and the oil filter, make sure to check your car’s fluids. These fluids include the windshield washer fluid, transmissions, brakes and power steering fluids. If the fluid levels are low, make sure to top them up. Remember that a decrease in fluid levels may suggest a leakage.

5. Change Oil and Oil Filter

Changing of oil and oil filter is of vital importance to the efficient functioning of your car. According to your car’s instruction manual, change its oil and oil filter to ensure the engine runs smoothly, without any trouble. Neglecting this step will adversely affect the performance of your car’s engine, resulting in higher fuel consumption and engine damage.
